Never Forget

As I sit down to write this morning, our church bells are pealing in remembrance of the lives lost on September 11, 2001.  Although it was 19 years ago, the day remains forever seared into our collective memory, particularly so on this crisp azure morning, as it was on that day.  I’m going to be speaking a bit more about this on Sunday, in a continuation of a couple of the ideas you folks raised for me last week.
This past Wednesday saw the initial meeting of our church’s Regathering group.  Many thanks to Pat Holloway, Briana Jewczyn, Andrew Landsman and Skip Weisenburger, who have agreed to serve in this capacity.  Our conversation is being guided by Governor Lamont’s directives, by the Southern New England UCC’s guidelines, by our own care and concern for our congregation and community, and a commitment to do this the right way.  We have no target date, nor even a target month at this early stage of our discernment, but we are well aware of how much we are missing the physical presence of one another.
Speaking of the SNEUCC, you might be interested in the following piece by the Conference’s Transitional Minister for health and Wellness, our friend and neighbor Deborah Ringen, on the utility of face-coverings, particularly as gathering restrictions are slowly loosening.  Deb’s thoughts can be found here:
Finally, I’m going to be taking some time off next week, and am so happy that Rev. Toni Smith has agreed to lead our worship on Sunday Sept 20.  You will definitely want to join worship that morning.  Links for this Sunday’s service can be found below.
