The Villager Voice ~ from Alan

When Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein was captured in 2003, one of the local Boston television stations began its top-of-the-hour newscast this way:  “In breaking news, American forces have captured Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein; but first, let’s check the weather for this weekend’s Patriots game.”  Here in New England, talk of weather and sports clearly takes precedence over trivial international news.

And so this morning we too lead with the weather:  we’ll make a decision later Saturday afternoon, but as things look right now, this weekend’s snow storm may compel us to cancel Sunday’s service.  If this comes to pass, we will notify both channels 3 and 30, and post the news on our Facebook page as well.  As they say in the business, stay tuned...

However, if the anticipated storm peters out, Sunday’s topic will be “Bucket Lists,” and I’ll be asking you all what items might be on yours.  It could be something you’ve already achieved, or something you yet hope to do, and I’ll share with you a few of my own.  We’ll do this as a way of approaching the story of Simeon from Luke 2.25-35.

And whatever happens this weekend, next Sunday after church (Jan 27) we will be holding an informal meeting to talk about the possibility of a mission trip for 2019.  If you are interested in joining us, or simply want more information, please join the conversation.  We are envisioning this as a multi-generational trip, so high schoolers, college students and adults are encouraged to sit with us.

Finally, here is a link to the version of “The Twelve Days of Christmas” we referenced in worship last week.  Enjoy!
