Back in the Nutmeg State
And I’m glad to be overlooking Jennings Pond once more, but in a way, I didn’t miss it: I saw some lovely photographs of the pond on social media while I was away. It was almost as though Chester were saying to me, “You can leave, but you can’t leave me behind.” We know where it is…
I keep asking you how you are doing, and there are multiple reasons for this. One can be found in a report I read in the news today titled, “Pandemic Seen Taking a Toll on American Happiness.” The lede reads, “The year 2020 has been rough on the American psyche. Folks in the United States are more unhappy today than they’ve been in nearly 50 years.” Just so, my asking is not simply after your health, but your own overall well-being. Stay tuned, we’ll be talking about the topic of happiness this Sunday.
The primary reason for this note is to provide details on next Wednesday’s Interfaith Prayer Service for Racial Justice. The graphic says to Facebook message us for the link to the service, and while you can do that, it will probably be smoother to send us an email at the church (unitedchester@uccchester.org); we will then send you the Zoom link to the service. It will begin at 7pm, and will feature a number of Valley Shore clergy as we lament together for the acts of racism, overt and covert, in our culture, and speak forcefully about the power of love to overcome division and injustice. As you know, I hold my interfaith colleagues in highest regard, and look forward to this time of virtual worship with them, with their congregations, and with you.
