On the Road
I’m out of town today, so no missives (nor breakfast!) from Simon’s, The Villager or The Hive. But I do want to share with you a glimpse of this Sunday’s service. It will look a little different than usual, but then again, things have been looking different for some time now, haven’t they!
As many of you know, our church conducts monthly services at Chesterfield’s Rehab and Recovery facility. Specifically, Diane Adams leads them in song every month, and I join her every second month, providing some scripture, reflection, and communion. It is a fun service, loosely organized, and quite spirited. A couple months ago, Diane and I thought it might be an enjoyable experience to hold a similar service some Sunday at our church. So we are calling this Sunday’s service “A Chesterfields Kind of Morning,” where we will share much of the same music and worship style we provide for the residents of the facility every month. We’ll talk about our musical choices, our readings, and how we find meaning and spirituality at these monthly services. We will also be able to draw in one of the topics we addressed during last Sunday’s spontaneous sermon.
And looking ahead to next week, the Deacons recently made the decision not to begin our program year at Cedar Lake this year. Given that we aren’t comfortable sharing food for a picnic during a pandemic, and that we would not be able to do a live broadcast of the service, taking another year off seemed like the wise thing to do. Nevertheless, we do look forward to welcoming you all back on September 12 as we continue to tiptoe back to being together in God’s presence once again.
As a reminder, this Sunday is communion. Either have your elements ready at home or remember to bring your water bottle.
