Deep in the heart of Advent, with but ten days to go until Christmas Day…
This Sunday is the United Church’s annual Christmas Cantata, featuring our church choir under Karli’s leadership and an assortment of instrumentalists to accompany them. This year’s offering is “Sing Noel!,” and offers the congregation the opportunity to join the choir on select familiar Christmas carols. It will be a delightful morning, and we hope you are able to join us.
Tomorrow (Saturday) is our annual Stuff a Cruiser event which will collect toys and gifts for local children, and there is still time to choose a specific gift from our giving tree to brighten a family’s holiday. It must also be said, you all have already been so generous with all our outreach efforts throughout the season, it is heartening to see the many ways this congregation has responded to the invitation to share what we have with others.
This year’s Christmas Eve (5:00) Service will again be a service of Lessons and Carols – if you are interested in doing a reading for that evening, please let me know (or call the church office) and we’ll get you your reading next week. Last year’s service featured a variety of voices, and was warmly received by the congregation, so let us know if you’d like to be part of it.
And just in case you haven’t had your fill of Christmas music yet, I’ll invite you to tomorrow’s performance of the Southeast Connecticut Community Orchestra, directed by UCC’s Hilarie Clark Moore. A family-oriented program, the concert features both traditional and contemporary holiday music, and it takes place at the Waterford Community Center, 24 Rope Ferry Road. A matinee, it begins at 2:00 pm and suggested admission is $10. We’d love to have you in the audience!
