I appreciated your good humor that followed last Sunday’s sermon about… a little bit of everything. On the topic of giving things up for Lent, a couple of you thanked me afterward, observing that since I’m going to be away for 95% of the season, you could in good conscience give me up for Lent and still indulge in your favorite vices. (I will not divulge which vices…) Just the same, remember that you are but dust, and to dust you shall return. Remember too that we will be sharing Ash Wednesday service next week with our siblings at the Deep River Congregational Church; we are invited to join them at either the morning (7:00) or evening (5:00) service.
A few of you also inquired about the two books I mentioned which I find so helpful in my sermon research. They are Chapters into Verse, a collection of poetry along biblical themes, edited by Robert Atwan and Laurence Weider; and The Jewish Annotated New Testament, edited by Amy-Jill Levine and Marc Zvi Brettler.
