Simon’s Says
What a fantastic event last Saturday’s Christmas Fair was at our United Church! So many goodies and cookies and snacks and sweets, lots of quality gift items, and holiday tchotchkes galore. There was a steady and enthusiastic stream of shoppers, and it was a glorious day weatherwise to boot. Thank you to all of you many, many volunteers who helped with organizing, set-up, sales, baking, cooking, gift-hunting, (not to mention making your own purchases), clean-up, and all the small but critical behind the scenes work you did. And special mention to Fair coordinators Judy Schondorf and Brenda Johnson. Judy and Brenda, it was your leadership, experience, knowledge, grace and enthusiasm that helped make this day the success it was. As Brenda told us Sunday morning, the fair netted more than $8000 this year, and of equal value were all the neighbors, friends and community members who passed through our doors. We are blessed to have such widespread support, both within and without our church family.
From one worthy event to another: tomorrow is our annual Stuff-a-Cruiser opportunity, part of a wider holiday gift-collection effort. We’re looking for new clothing items (hats, mittens, gloves, pajamas, socks, sweaters) and new, unwrapped gifts and toys for local children and families. You are always more than generous with this endeavor, and your church thanks you in advance for your contributions. We are grateful to Sue Germini-Humble and everyone on our Outreach Committee for organizing this.
On a personal note, I invite you to an afternoon of light popular Christmas music performed by the Southeast Connecticut Community Orchestra Sunday afternoon at 3:00 at East Lyme High School.
