The world lost a champion for humanity, humility and inclusion Monday morning as Pope Francis passed away at age 88. The first South American prelate elected to the papacy, Francis became known as an advocate for the marginalized and the poor and made small but significant inroads for folks whom church history and tradition had previously fenced out from the Roman Catholic fellowship. He was also an aficionado of world poetry, and we will hear a bit of Francis’s own work this Sunday as we consider his life and legacy.
It was a blessed Holy Week that just passed. In particular, the music for Maundy Thursday and Easter was inspired and inspiring and created just the right atmosphere for worship. Sunrise Service was as spectacular as it always is, and I especially enjoy worshiping with folks from across the region, some of whom I only see on an annual basis at 6:00 am Easter morning! If you missed any of our Holy Week services, they can be found on the United Church’s Facebook page and will remain viewable for the next month.

In addition to being one of our top fundraisers, it provides opportunities for fellowship among the many neighbors who drop by.
