The Villager Voice

Our congregation was well-served the past two Sundays by some wonderful worship leaders.  I’m grateful for the warm welcome you always afford our visiting clergy (I was cautioned many years ago to avoid the use of the phrase “guest preacher,” as anyone who takes the pulpit and proclaims the word of God is not a guest, but a welcome proclaimer of the gospel).  The Rev. Joe Tobin is a faithful and creative preacher, and he enjoys your company as much as you enjoy his leadership.  And as some of you know, our families have been acquainted for decades.

I saw the Rev. Kristen Provost Switzer at yesterday’s Middlesex Association clergy retreat, and we had fun comparing notes of our morning with each other’s congregations two weeks ago.  She asked me to pass along the following, which she shared with you that morning, and which more than one of you requested that morning; these are the Affirmations for Radical Acceptance (and Lord forgive me, but I can’t help that the first one reminds me of Bill Belichik…):

It is what it is.

I accept this moment for exactly what it is.

God is God and I am not.

I won’t stress over things I can’t change.

I surrender to the flow of life.

Some things are out of my control and that’s okay

It’s okay to feel how I feel AND I can still deal with it effectively.

I love the ways we continue to learn from one another in faith.
