The photo that accompanies this note shows our Board of Deacons hard at work on a gorgeous early autumn morning. Having last met in June, we decided to try an outdoor, socially-distanced meeting, which we did last Sunday, and it was wonderful to see each other. We covered a lot of ground, some business, lots of catching up with one another and with church news, and during our conversation it occurred to me that this is something we’ve been missing in this time of worshiping together apart. We’ve tried to do a good job of getting information to the congregation through these weekly (sometimes more than weekly) notes, reminders and newsletters, but these things can only capture so much.
How are you feeling? How is your family, your spouse, your parents, your children & grandchildren? How is the church budget faring these days? Where am I on my pledge? What groups are currently using the building? How many new families are we reaching via online worship? Who has moved out of town? Who has moved in? And it struck me that a lot of what we are missing is the social chit-chat before and after worship, those things that may or may not be considered “official church business” but are of interest to us nonetheless.
We haven’t yet determined when will be the right time to return to in-person worship, but the Deacons, as a group, had a thought: if there’s something you’d like to know that we haven’t communicated, give us a call! We’d love to know what’s on your mind, and it’s important for us to stay connected with every tool at our disposal. And even if you have no questions but simply want to check in and let us know how you’re doing, please by all means do – it’s not easy keeping up with everyone when we aren’t getting together, and as much as the Deacons have been reaching out to our members, please know you can reach out to us as well – we are always interested in how you’re doing and what’s going on in your lives these days.
