What’s the Buzz?
The question is meant to be rhetorical, but this morning the answer is ‘Downtown Chester.’ There is quite the buzz in town this morning, I’m guessing in preparation for this weekend’s Chester Fair. One of you asked me if I had ever been to the Fair, and I’m glad to say I’ve been both the first and second summers I’ve lived here – last year there was no fair, so this one will be my third in four years. I love country fairs, and look forward to the weekend.
Dear people of God, I am deeply grateful for your support, presence and prayers over the past week following my Dad’s passing. Knowing that you were holding my family and me in the light of God was a tremendous comfort during difficult days. Dad relished his time among us, as well as the friendships and acquaintances he made at the United Church of Chester, and was glad to be part of this community of faith.
As well, I’m grateful to Karli for last Sunday’s partly truncated and fully musical service. Henri had been downgraded to a tropical storm by the time it reached Connecticut, and as a result was not quite as vicious as advertised, but limiting our worship to virtual mode certainly was the prudent thing to do. And yes, what I had planned for last week is still on the docket: please send your ideas, questions and suggestions for topics for the spontaneous sermon to me at w.alan.froggatt@uccchester.org and we’ll see where they take us! (You’ll also have the opportunity to suggest topics on the spot – that’s what makes them spontaneous.)
