(Virtual thanks to a 8:45 meeting that kept me from Coffice Hours today, hence the to-go breakfast on my desktop.)
There are three important items on tap for Sunday. The first is Katie Wilcox Day, when we celebrate the former Chesterite and congregant who followed the call to mission and founded Lady Doak College in Madurai, India, an all-girls (now women’s) school that continues to grow and thrive today. One aspect of the celebration is the annual monetary gift we make to the college; this year we are making a contribution in memory of our Peg Leiberman, who was not only a staunch supporter of the school, but knew Katie in her youth. Special offering envelopes will be available for your contribution (or you can donate through our church web page).
Sunday is also the United Church’s Annual Congregational meeting, held immediately following worship. We will receive the Annual Report, and vote on the slate of officers and board members as presented by the Nominating Committee – come and let your voice be heard. Click Here for the Annual Report.
Finally, Sunday is also Pentecost, the day of the church year we celebrate the gift of the Holy Spirit, and recognized as the birth of the church. Come wearing the color red, as this is the only day of the ecclesiastical year that color makes its appearance!
If this is not enough to fill your weekend, let me invite you to the final performance of the season for the Southeast Connecticut Community Orchestra, at East Lyme High School Saturday evening at 7:30 pm. It is a concert of light classical music and promises to have your toes tapping.
