Simon’s Says

Following last Sunday’s celebration of Katie Wilcox and Lady Doak College, I received the following note from Dr. R. Beulah Jeyashree, the new Principal and Secretary of the school.

Dear Rev Alan Froggatt,

Greetings from Lady Doak College to you and all the members of the United Church of Chester.

I wish to introduce myself as Beulah Jeyashree, Principal and Secretary of Lady Doak College. I would like to add with pride that I am an alumna of Lady Doak and OCPM School (Orlinda Child’s Pierce Memorial Girls Higher Secondary School, Madurai), both founded by Miss Wilcox.

I was privileged to attend the Worship Service last Sunday held in honour of our dear Founder Miss Katie Wilcox which brought back to my mind the great service and sacrifice of hers to Madurai. We stand on the fruits of her labour and strive to continue her service to society in the same relentless way she did. The grace and favour that she could elicit from the philanthropists and well-wishers is a blessing that continues to sustain the college.

It is very sad to know that Ms. Peg Lieberman who was associated with Miss Wilcox and the one who continued to support Lady Doak has left for an eternal life. At the same time, we as a college, do appreciate Rev. Eileen Sypher who has volunteered to take on Peg’s legacy and to continue the relationship with Lady Doak in future.

Following the footsteps of Miss Wilcox, the college management and the community have envisioned great plans of the expansion of our service to society. With the same fervour of Katie Wilcox, to uplift and empower women children of our neighbouring villages, the building project in the satellite campus at Velichanatham was kick started recently and it is gaining momentum slowly. We envisage a new Lady Doak community in the vicinity of Velichanatham, to enlighten the young minds of that neighbourhood.

We pray that the support given by the United Church of Chester through prayers and other means to Katie Wilcox and the divine leading with which she could accomplish her dreams, be upon the college in its future endeavours.

It is indeed a great privilege to connect with you and the congregation of UCC and I on behalf of the Katie Wilcox Education Association, heartily invite you all to visit Lady Doak as a team from UCC. May the good Lord lead us in this venture.

 With warm regards,

Beulah

Thus far we have raised $835 for our contribution to the school in loving memory or Peggy Lieberman.  You may still contribute to the monetary gift through June 1.
