The Villager Voice
I took a brief stroll through the village last night and was met by the sight of many worker bees putting up lights and garlands and wreaths and generally spiffing up Chester for the holidays. The candy cane stripes on the E List building are especially fetching! The town center is ready for tonight’s Tree Lighting and lights festival this evening. I hope to see you among the revelers tonight.
It would also be wonderful to see you tomorrow at the United Church’s annual Christmas Fair, beginning at 9:00 am. The Fellowship Hall is filling up with all manner of Christmas crafts and gift items, and soon will be filled with sweet and savory treats for purchase as well. The Fair is a great opportunity for us to welcome our community neighbors from near and far to spread the spirit of the season. It takes many hands to make an occasion like this run smoothly and effectively, and we are grateful to all who are working hard to make it happen. I’m looking forward to it.
A word of thanks to all who have already made your pledge of commitment for the coming year. If you have not yet done so, please return your pledge card soon, it really helps us to determine how we will administer our budget and finances in 2025.
During Advent I am preaching from some of the biblical texts George Frederick Handel employed for his oratorio Messiah. This week will focus on Malachi, the final book of the Old Testament, and the ways it is called into action, not only for Handel’s purposes, but for other bits of the church’s Christmas music as well (if you are reading along in the 2024 Advent devotionals we distributed you will already have a clue where this is going…)
