Simon’s Says
On Monday evening The Rev Isaac Lawson, the Area Conference Minister for our Middlesex Association (SNEUCC), announced his decision to return to local church ministry at the end of this month. Isaac has been called by a UCC congregation in Ft Worth, Texas, and is excited about this new direction in his calling. He has served our Association (as well as others in the South Central Region, including the Farmington Valley, Hartford, Hartford East, Central, Tolland and New London Associations) for four years, having taken the position in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic. Altogether, he was responsible for nearly 110 congregations and their pastors in our Region.
As the former Vice-Moderator and a member of our Association’s Executive Committee/Committee on Ministry, I was fortunate to work closely with Isaac during his time among us. Although the role of ACM has changed considerably since the time of Mike Penn-Strah and Kent Siladi, Isaac has brought an abundance of wisdom, compassion and commitment to his ministry among us. The Rev. Liz Garrigan-Byerly, Executive Minister for Conference ACMs, said of him, “His deep pastoral heart and his passion for justice have faithfully provoked us toward our mission of living the love and justice of Jesus. While we will miss Isaac greatly, I always trust other’s discernment and so I am certain God is leading him to the right place at this time.” We fêted Isaac at Monday’s Association meeting, thanked him for his service among us, and wished him Godspeed as he moves on to new opportunities.
