Last night’s dress rehearsal for Sunday’s annual Christmas Cantata was amazing. The 26 voice choir and instrumental consort, under Karli Gilbertson’s able and enthusiastic direction, practiced for nearly two hours to refine what has been months of preparation for Sunday morning’s worship. The cantata, Voices of Christmas by Joseph Martin, combines familiar carols in original musical settings, to create a moving and uplifting meditation on the meaning of the coming of the Christ into the world. While it is not really possible to compare one year’s cantata to the next, it remains this will be a sterling offering for the season. With Christmas less than a week away now, it will surely enhance the season for the listener – be sure to invite friends to come along with you this Sunday, they will thank you for the experience.
Our Christmas Eve service next Wednesday night at 5:00 will also include a good deal of music, familiar readings of Bible texts and poetry, and a reflection on two of the most prominent characters of Christmas faith and tradition (we’ll leave it at that for now…). We look forward to welcoming our church family that evening, both immediate and extended.
