Regathering News

Our church’s Regathering Committee met last week and set the date of Sunday May 2 for the resumption of in-person worship; their decision was approved over the weekend by the Church Council.  Worship is going to look a lot different when we return.  To avoid surface contamination, Bibles and hymnals have been removed from the sanctuary; we are unable to sing at this time, but that doesn’t mean you can’t hum along vigorously; the offering will not be collected by ushers, nor will there be communion served, at least not in the early days of return.  Worshipers will have their temperatures taken on entry, hand sanitizer will be available, we will record attendance and contact info for contact tracing, and pews will be marked off to maintain distancing.  Other details are still being worked out and we will share them as they are.

And, in what I think will be a fun attempt at minimizing hiccups during worship, you are invited to join us Saturday May 1 at 10:00 a.m. for a mock-worship service.  We will walk our way through the entire service to identify anything we may have missed in our planning; I encourage you to join us that morning, it will be a big help to me and the rest of our worship leadership.

Still, we plan to monitor infection rates locally, and if they begin to rise to unsafe levels, we are willing to pull back if necessary – this is a work in progress.  And Yes, we will continue to live stream our Sunday services.  We recognize how many folks worship virtually with us from places far-flung.  We also recognize that you may not feel comfortable resuming in-person worship in early May; if so, you may continue to worship from home with our blessing.  We want everyone to feel safe, and your comfort level is yours and yours alone.

Please join us in congratulating Charlene Fearon for being the Person Of The Week in the Valley Courier! She and Lol are doing wonderful things at Chester Elem School.
