Grow a Row!

As many of you know, I sit on the Town of Chester’s Social Services, Spirituality and Emotional Wellness subcommittee of the Chester Long Term Recovery Task Force.  (I thought about putting that on my business card, but it would take up both sides.)  You many know it as the group who assisted residents in finding and making appointments for the Covid 19 vaccine, an effort that met with considerable success.
Now that vaccines are easily available, we have moved on to address another community need, ensuring food security.  Several months ago, the United Church’s Deb Vilcheck began a project that involved distributing food to folks who came to our UCC for the Sunday evening Shoreline Soup Kitchen and Pantry dinner.  In partnership with Rosie Bininger, Chester’s Director of Human Services, our group is expanding the program and moving distribution to Town Hall.  The attached announcement provides details, and we continue to seek volunteers; if you can assist in any way – shopping, bagging, distributing – please contact Jenny at Town Hall (860.526.0013, x202).  We are especially excited about a fourth leg to the program:  “Grow a Row!”  It’s an opportunity to provide clients with fresh produce during the growing season, sharing our gardens’ bounty with our neighbors.  I do hope you’ll consider participating in some way.
Finally, two quick notes:  our monthly Hymn Sing will take place next Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. on Facebook Live; and we welcome The Rev. Toni Smith back to the United Church pulpit next Sunday May 23 as I will be away for the week.

Blessings all!
