Simon’s Says

Last week’s blog was titled “What’s the Buzz?”  Little did I expect that what was meant to be a rhetorical question would be answered so directly during last Sunday’s worship:  the buzz was the aural cacophony that plagued the sound on our live broadcast.  If you were worshipping from home you know what I mean.  A number of you made comments to that effect during the service, though you should know that a) I can’t read the comments on the screen in real time, as the font is too small and b) even if I could, it isn’t possible to shut down worship and trouble shoot on the spot.  We’ve been trying all week to replicate the problem, and naturally, everything is in tip-top working order.  Pray for us.

Yesterday President Biden signed legislation establishing Juneteenth as a national holiday.  I find it remarkable that the Senate passed the bill unanimously; I find it equally remarkable, in a different sense, that 14 Representatives voted against it.  It is the first new holiday since the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King’s birthday was so honored in 1983.  With this in mind, we’re going to look at certain parts of the Old Testament this week that speak about the biblical mandate to set the captive free.

You may have noticed that we have resumed the practice of posting sermon texts on our web page.  We stopped doing so when the pandemic hit, primarily because I was preaching from notes rather than a text, but with the return to in-person worship came a return to my customary way of leading worship.  And we will continue to archive the service videos as well (except for last week’s, which we hastily banished to history’s dustbin).

So what will it be this week?  Will we all sound like Alvin and the Chipmunks?  Will the video suddenly tilt us all sideways?  Perhaps a UAP (formerly known as a UFO) will zip in one of our open windows and zip out the other side.  Join us Sunday morning and find out.  Here are the links to the bulletin and service:
