Simon’s Says

As many of you know, the Froggatt kitchen is undergoing a major remodel.  Late last March, we ordered new appliances:  refrigerator, dishwasher, oven and cooktop.  Nine months later, the first three of these arrived; the cooktop is most likely still offshore someplace waiting to be offloaded.  It has lots of company, I understand.

Until Wednesday, the UCC’s Advent Devotional was among that company.  While Advent began nearly two weeks ago, the devotional finally arrived this week and we have copies for you.  The UCC was kind enough to provide the last two weeks of devotions electronically, it just wasn’t the same.  I do like to have the book in front of me rather than read it on my computer screen.  Jesus Crisis is the theme of this year’s collection.  A curious title.  As it turns out, the word ‘crisis’ is derived from the Greek root krinein, meaning ‘decision point,’ and was first used in English as a medical term indicating a decisive point in the progress of a disease.  So yes, Jesus comes to heal a broken world at Advent, and the Lord surely knows we can use him.

Please feel welcome to take a devotional home with you after church on Sunday, or stop by the church office and get one at your convenience.  It is a gift from your church to you this season.  And speaking of gifts, there are still some gift tags on our giving tree in the narthex; please feel welcome to take one of these as well and return the gift to the church by this Friday Dec. 17, that the gifts might be distributed to families in need by Christmas.
