Simon’s Says

It is Good Friday.  (It is also Tax Day - you may make your own connections…)  And we are deep in the heart of a holy weekend.  Last night’s Maundy Thursday service was a powerful one, and the United Church of Chester experienced a special blessing with the return of our church choir, who brought us a moving rendition of Behnke’s “Behold the Lamb of God.”  Today at Noon we will hear the story of Christ’s passion as John the evangelist tells it, and Sunday morning we will greet the resurrection at our 10:00 am service.  Worship continues to be hybrid, both in-person and online.

By now you’ve heard the news of our Parish Administrator’s departure - Mari Lynd will be moving out of state in early to mid-June.  We will give her a proper send-off before that happens, and in the meantime, we have a small group searching for her successor.  If you know someone (we are looking outside church membership) with administrative and interpersonal skills who might do well with a 20 hour/week position, please encourage them to apply.  A fuller description will be published next week in a variety of places - feel free to spread the word!

The recent concert at church featuring the Essex Piano Trio was a great success.  Besides an afternoon of delightful music, we raised $273 for Chester’s Camp Scholarship Fund, and an equal amount went to the performers.  If you were in attendance, we hope you enjoyed the performance.

I’m taking a couple weeks off after Easter, and will return the first week of May.  The congregation will be in the more-than-capable care of Rev. Eileen Sypher and Rev. Toni Smith the two Sundays I am away - we are so blessed to have these two wonderful clergy among us.

Easter blessings, all!
