The Villager Voice
(Actually, the Virtual Villager Voice, as there was nary a seat to be found in all of Chester this morning…)
I was doing some routine record-keeping the other day when I decided to look closely at my preaching since I’ve been with all of you, and saw that I’ve only preached from 53 of the Bible’s 66 books in the past nearly five years. Percentage-wise, that’s a relatively healthy 80% of scriptural territory covered; but it also means there are 13 of them I’ve neglected completely! So in an attempt to remedy at least some of that neglect, this summer’s sermon series will be “Overlooked and Underpreached,” where we’ll take a dive into some of the lesser-heard parts of the Bible. What surprised me about the list of untouched books is that there were more – by one – New Testament books than Old; seven of the former to six of the latter. (Quiz time: how many of the unpreached-upon books can you name?) What didn’t surprise me was that, of the six OT books, four are (hint:) from the Minor Prophets. We will remedy that in one fell swoop this Sunday as we look at all twelve of the Minor Prophets from a decidedly unusual point of view. Hope you can join us at 9:00 am!
And just a reminder, the Memorial Service for Anne Easton is tomorrow afternoon at 2:00 at the United Church. You may have noticed those nasty Covid rates are creeping up again, so please remember to wear your mask to the service. The links to Sunday’s bulletin and service are here:
