Simon’s Says

What a smashingly successful Christmas Fair we enjoyed at the United Church last Saturday.  Profound thanks to Brenda Johnson and Judy Schondorf who marshaled a crack team of volunteers who welcomed our community friends and neighbors to take and taste our wares.  As Brenda told us Sunday morning, we realized at least $7200 in funds that will go to support our church’s mission and ministry.  Thank you to ALL of you who helped out in any way, it took every single one of you to make it such a wonderful experience.  Your church is grateful.

Only one more week until our much-anticipated Christmas Cantata, which will be presented during worship next Sunday December 17.  Under the direction of Karli Gilbertson, our church choir will be joined by a string quartet, percussion and two narrators, and the cantata will also offer the opportunity for congregational singing.  “Sing Noel” is a service of carols by composer Hal Hopson, whose music we have enjoyed on multiple occasions.  You will want to invite family and friends alike to this special celebration of the season in song.

Finally, don’t forget the multiple opportunities for ministry made available by our Outreach Committee under the gifted leadership of Sue Germini-Humble.  Gift tags for specific requests by Chester families are available in the narthex, we are collecting Walmart and Amazon gift cards for Middletown’s Covenant to Care, as well as new clothing items for the children of our community, and the annual Stuff-a-Cruiser will take place in our parking lot next Saturday December 16, 10:00 to 1:00.

There is a lot going on these days, and we give thanks to God for the gifts, enthusiasm and dedication of so many to bring light and life to the world.
