Simon’s Says ~ from Alan

“Everything happens at once!” is a common refrain during the holidays.  And while the lament is typically heard between Thanksgiving and Christmas, for the church, Epiphany is the real culprit.

Consider the things the church suggests Epiphany which began on January 6, signifies:

            The arrival of the magi at the manger;

            The presentation of the infant Jesus in the temple;

            Jesus’ own return to the temple at age 12;

            Jesus’ baptism as an adult by John.

That’s a lot of heavy lifting for one season to bear.  Fortunately, this year gives us a lot of lifting room: with Easter near its latest possible date, April 21, Lent doesn't begin until March, so we have the luxury of time - by virtue of a long Epiphany season (which stretches from now until Lent) - to visit these and other stories at relative leisure.

We begin this weekend with the story of the Three Kings - who of course weren’t really kings at all - and will unfold some of those other stories as Epiphany progresses.  Hope you can join us.
